LETTER ARCHIVE

September 2022

Dear Friends,

We are days away from welcoming our students and staff back for the 2022-23 school year. Over the
summer, staff participated in professional development and students attended our summer enrichment programs. The summer recreation program was well attended and culminated with an ice cream celebration. Technology was refreshed, our buildings and grounds look great, and our fields are ready for another year of exciting sporting events - Go Falcons!

Start Your Day with Breakfast: Breakfast is free for all Northville students. Encourage your children to take advantage of the most important meal of the day

Meet Our New Nurse
: Please join us in welcoming Charlotte Kalkbrenner, RN, BSN to our family. Ms. Kalkbrenner comes to us with years of experience caring for children and young adults. Her previous work experience as an RN included Four Seasons Pediatrics, St. Mary's Healthcare Progressive Care and Intensive Care Units, and St. Mary's Healthcare Emergency Department. Ms. Kalkbrenner is a 2016 graduate of Northville CSD where she was recognized as a Northville CSD Girls Soccer All-Star and a Blue Shield Scholar. Charlotte will kick-off a monthly Nurse's Newsletter for families and staff later in the fall.

Redesigned Sensory Room: Our sensory room, shown in the video at this link, was transformed by a talented facility staff member and a Northville student entering her senior year.

New Distance Learning Lab/eSport Center:
Our new learning space is officially open for the 2022-23 school year.
The lab will offer students additional opportunities to earn college credits through HFM Community College and SUNY Albany. The courses include Level 5 Spanish (SUNY Credit), Women’s Studies, and Holocaust and WWII History.

Out and About:
In early August, I had an informative visit with Skip and Linda Thompson, curators of the Northville Northampton Historical Museum housed in the former Giffords Valley Schoolhouse #9. I learned that the one-room schoolhouse was moved to its current location in Northville in 1990. There are so many beautifully displayed and well-cared-for artifacts in the space that it made this former librarian's heart smile. I left with a few beautiful cards and a book, The Northville's Historic Business District Walking Tour compiled by Gail Cramer, Northville-Northampton Historian

Out of this World, Artemis 1: For space travel aficionados, visit the Artemis 1 Press Kit and live updates to learn more about, "...the first stage of a series of missions designed to send humans to the moon as part of the Artemis program. NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket will launch an uncrewed deep space exploration system — the Orion spacecraft — around the moon and back again in an effort to test the Orion module, SLS rocket as well as ground systems at the Kennedy Space Center, laying the foundations for subsequent missions within the Artemis program. Artemis 1 is due to launch at the end of August, with the first launch window scheduled for Aug. 29. Back-up launch windows are set for Sept. 2 and Sept. 5" (Reference).

Please join me for a September conversation by filling out and submitting the form at this link. Select in-person or virtual WebEx early evening options.
