 Dear Friends,

Spring is here. Tomorrow is May 1st, and graduation planning is underway. Our calendar is full: bake sales, rummage sales, Mother's Day brunch, chicken barbecues, raffles, a car show, the kindergarten-senior class breakfast, award ceremonies, music events, and more. Baseball and softball are in full swing! Our next Drive-Thru Pantry is on May 27th! 

April was a busy month. Second graders sorted and counted jelly beans with Ms. Pratt. Two of Ms. Feldman-Kohl's students taught Dr. Chauncey the Pythagorean Theorem and clearly enjoyed every minute of it. Our 3rd through 5th graders competed in First In Math, and 8th graders in Ms. Sedon's class painted detailed animal eyes with watercolor pencils. Brynn and Mackenzie earned their Girl Scout Silver Award by building a patch program tied to the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War. The Regional Food Bank drive-thru ran again, with Rotary and our students packing food side by side. And Lilian Chamberlain represented us at the NYSPHSAA Student Leadership Conference. There is plenty to be proud of this month.

Get outside when you can. Take a walk, catch a game, sit in the sun for a few minutes. It's good for the mind and body!

EASTER EGGS & JELLY BEAN MATH ~ MS. PRATT

I had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful lesson in 2nd grade called Jelly Bean Math. Students used jelly beans to count, sort, compare, and explain their mathematical thinking in a fun and hands-on way.

 

TEACH DR. CHAUNCEY ~ MS. FELDMAN-KOHL

Many thanks to Ms. Kohl’s students for rising to the challenge and teaching Dr. Chauncey all about the Pythagorean Theorem! Their confidence, enthusiasm, and mathematical thinking made for a fun and memorable learning experience.

FIRST IN MATH COMPETITION ~ MS. LUEY

On March 19th, some of our 3rd–5th-grade students participated in the First In Math competition. While we are still waiting for the official results, I wanted to take a moment to recognize their effort and dedication. These students are committed to practicing after school and consistently put in extra work to prepare. Their perseverance and positive attitude throughout the process have been truly impressive. Our students have been crunching numbers and climbing the ranks in the First in Math program, a digital challenge that turns rigorous arithmetic into a high-energy quest for excellence! By mastering the legendary 24® Game and solving complex mental-math patterns, these dedicated learners have earned thousands of virtual stickers and secured spots on the leaderboards. We are incredibly proud to showcase the award-winners and medalists featured below; their success is a testament to the grit, speed, and "number sense" they’ve developed through consistent practice. Join us in cheering on these math champions as they continue to prove that mastering a difficult equation is just as exhilarating as hitting a home run!

250th ANNIVERSARY OF THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR ~ MS. THOMARIE

To tag on to this NYS resource, Brynn and Mackenzie created a patch program for their Girl Scout Silver Award. It is NOT just for Scouts! If a class or family wants to complete the requirements, they can. We planned for the patches to be for Scouts, but if a class wants to earn a patch, we can chat! The girls worked hard to fundraise for the patches- we would love to get them out to the public! The program is called Saratoga's Revolutionary Girls & it is housed at the saratoga250.com site under the Discover tab. We, of course, focused on girls, but the activities also apply to boys. The categories are: clothing, chores, cooking, and games!

EYES ON YOU ~ MS. SEDON

8th-grade students created detailed eyes for animals, birds, or reptiles. They focused on enlarging the eye area, creating visual texture, and blending using watercolor pencils. The central part of the eyes was coated with Mod Podge to create a glossy effect.

NORTHVILLE CSD ~ REGIONAL FOOD BANK DRIVE-THRU
We are grateful to all who make our drive-thru food drives a success. The Regional Food Bank offered an amazing variety of food, and our Rotary worked side-by-side with our students to efficiently pack and load food for our families.

NYSPHSAA STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE ~ MR. KARBOWSKI

The NYSPHSAA Student Leadership Conference is an annual event designed to empower and train sophomore and junior student-athletes from across New York State to become more effective leaders within their teams, schools, and communities. Typically held over one or two days, with the 2026 conference taking place this April, the gathering features keynote speakers, interactive workshops, and breakout sessions that cover a wide range of relevant topics, including servant leadership, mental health awareness, nutrition, and college readiness. Attendees are specifically selected by their respective athletic sections to represent their peers, offering a unique opportunity to network with fellow student-athletes and gain practical skills that foster a positive athletic culture. By focusing on the development of the "whole student," the conference aims to inspire these young leaders to act with integrity and influence their surroundings both on and off the field. As always, it was an awesome group of kids. Your leagues, and Section 2, were very well represented. Thank you all for your help in getting them there. Congratulations to our own Lilian Chamberlain for her participation and leadership.

TELHEALTH SERVICES ~ MRS. RENNER

NCS will offer telehealth services to students and staff through Albany Medical Center for the 2025-26 school year. We are excited and hopeful that this partnership will help alleviate some of the stress that often arises when a child needs medical care. Not only will our students have this service available during the school day, but it can also be used at home by anyone, including adults!

Please see the informational flyer and pre-registration form. A QR code is also included on the flyer and below if you wish to complete online registration. We strongly urge pre-registration to expedite care, but please be assured that your child will never be seen by a telehealth provider without your consent (every time). The Albany Med team will be at Open House on 09/16 at 6:30pm to offer insight and assist with registration. We hope many of our students take advantage of this excellent service!

Mrs. Fitzgerald posts to Northville CSD Parent Square daily to inform us about the numerous events that make our school and extended community such vibrant, welcoming spaces.
