Dear Friends,
Wishing you joy this Thanksgiving and hoping you have lovely moments with family and friends. A friend shared an account with me (@katiemcdermott) that features yummy pie recipes and so much more—direct link. The pies make me think of my mom, who used to make large apple sheet pies with the best crust ever. This is the first year we’ll be traveling for Thanksgiving. We are off to Virginia on Wednesday morning to spend the holiday with my daughter, her husband, and his family. We are traveling by train—my favorite!
With Thanksgiving falling at the end of the month this year, we’ll return to school with just three short weeks before our two-week holiday break. I hope you’ll use both of these breaks as chances for your children—and for you as staff and families—to truly unplug: play outside, hike, spend unhurried time with friends and relatives, and pick up a good book. These simple moments of rest and real-world connection help all of us recharge and return to school feeling refreshed and ready to learn.

TEACH DR. CHAUNCY ~ MS. KOHL & MS. MILES
Linear equations are a core math concept in 8th grade because they help students understand and describe constant rates of change.
Students learn to write equations like y = mx + b, create tables, and graph straight lines to visualize the relationship between two quantities. This foundation prepares them for high school algebra and helps them model real-world situations such as speed, cost, and growth over time. Dr. Chauncey visited the class while students were working and asked if student volunteers would be willing to teach her what they were learning.

FABRICATION LAB ~ MR. VALOVIC
Jace Sikorski (12th grade- CNC 3) ~ In this project, I planned two different types of wood and edge-glued and clamped the boards together to create the base for my snowflake serving tray. I used Autodesk Fusion to design the tray and then cut it out using the CNC router. To complete the project, I sanded the tray and applied two coats of Danish oil to achieve a smooth, polished finish.
RAKING LEAVES, HAND TURKEYS, AND TURKEY TROT ~ MS. HABLA
Among the many activities Ms. Habla’s Leadership Class has taken on is helping our community by raking leaves. They also worked with our Kindergarten students to create festive “hand turkeys” and proudly sponsored our first-ever Northville Turkey Trot!
BATTLE OF SARATOGA ~ NORTHVILLE LIBRARY PRESENTATION
Thank you, Northville Library, for hosting this presentation and engaging activities. Our elementary social studies classes received a copy of
Overhearing History by Anne Clothier. Ms. Clothier and staff, thank you. Ms. Lauren Roberts, from Saratoga, had set up several stations so that students could experience what it was like to live, work, and play during that period in history. Here are some pics and videos that I captured.
UNICEF COIN DRIVE ~ MS. THOMARIE
Ms. Thomarie thanked everyone for their support! NCS will donate $196.12 to UNICEF. Your pocket change really does help to change the world. The elementary class that raised the most for the United Nations Children's Fund was Mr. Hammons's class. The International Club will be awarding them cider donuts!
Students in Introduction to Forensics have been learning about fingerprint patterns. This week, students, Mrs. Reidell, and Dr. Chauncey had the opportunity to take their own fingerprints and observe the three main types of fingerprint patterns: loops, whorls, and arches. Students then used the fingerprint types to calculate their primary classification number. The class will be discussing the significance of the primary classification number later in the week.

TELHEALTH SERVICES ~ MS. RENNER
NCS will offer telehealth services to students and staff through Albany Medical Center for the 2025-26 school year. We are excited and hopeful that this partnership will help alleviate some of the stress that often arises when a child needs medical care. Not only will our students have this service available during the school day, but it can also be utilized at home by anyone, adults included!
Please see the informational flyer and pre-registration form. A QR code is also included on the flyer and below if you wish to complete online registration. We strongly urge pre-registration so that care can be expedited, but please be assured that your child will never be seen by a telehealth provider without obtaining your consent first (every time). The Albany Med team will be at Open House on 09/16 at 6:30pm to offer insight and assist with registration. We hope many of our students take advantage of this excellent service!
Ms. Fitzgerald posts to Northville CSD Parent Square daily to inform us about the numerous events that make our school and extended community such vibrant, welcoming spaces.
